Maclear supports two 2FA methods: authenticator app and email verification. Setting up 2FA is optional but strongly recommended — it adds a critical layer of protection to your account. Only one method can be active at a time — to switch methods, the active one must be disabled first. To set up 2FA, go to Personal Settings by clicking your profile avatar and find the Two-Factor Authentication section.
Method 1: How to set up 2FA via authenticator app on Maclear
- Download the Google Authenticator app (→ Article 12) on your smartphone — available on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android).
- Log in to your Maclear account and click your avatar in the upper left corner to open Personal Settings.
- Scroll to the Two-Factor Authentication section and toggle it on.
- A window will appear showing a QR code and a 16-digit backup key.
⚠️ Save your 16-digit backup key in a password manager before leaving this screen. This is your only way to recover access without contacting support. Once you close this window, the key cannot be retrieved again. - Open Google Authenticator, tap the "+" icon, and scan the QR code or enter the 16-digit key manually.
- A 6-digit code for Maclear will appear in the app.
- Enter this code in the activation field on Maclear and click Enable.
Method 2: How to set up 2FA via email on Maclear
- Go to Personal Settings by clicking your profile image.
- Find the Two-Factor Authentication section and select Email.
- A one-time verification code will be sent to the email address linked to your account.
- Enter the code in the pop-up window to activate.
If the code did not arrive, check your spam folder and make sure your email address in your profile is correct. If your email address is no longer accessible, contact support@maclear.ch and send a selfie holding your passport or national ID — the team will update your email before proceeding.
