What happens if multiple Maclear borrowers default at the same time?

If multiple borrowers default simultaneously, Maclear activates the same recovery framework for each project in parallel: legal proceedings, forced asset sales, and use of the Provision Fund. Repayments to investors continue progressively as funds are recovered. Maclear considers this scenario highly unlikely given its strict project selection process and ongoing borrower monitoring.
Why multiple simultaneous defaults are unlikely
Every project listed on Maclear passes an independent due diligence and risk assessment before listing. Borrowers operate in different sectors, geographies, and financial situations. This diversification reduces the probability of correlated defaults — a situation where multiple borrowers fail for the same reason at the same time. Maclear's screening process is specifically designed to avoid concentrations of similar risk profiles.
What happens if it does occur
If several borrowers default at the same time:
Legal proceedings and collateral enforcement are initiated for each project independently
The Provision Fund is used first to maintain interest payments for investors in affected projects, as long as fund reserves are sufficient
Forced asset sales and guarantee realisation proceed for each project in parallel
Recovered funds from each project are distributed to that project's investors proportionally
There is no cross-project pooling of losses — each project is handled independently. Investors in a non-defaulting project are not affected by defaults in other projects.
Would the Provision Fund be enough to cover multiple simultaneous defaults?
The Provision Fund covers interest payments for affected projects as long as its reserves are sufficient. It is not sized to absorb principal losses from multiple simultaneous full defaults — that scenario would rely primarily on collateral enforcement and asset recovery. The fund's capacity grows with each newly funded project, providing increasing coverage over time.
Are investors in one project affected by defaults in other projects?
No. Each project is legally independent. Losses in one project are absorbed by that project's collateral, guarantees, and Provision Fund allocation. Investors who did not participate in a defaulting project are not affected by its outcome.
What is Maclear's track record on simultaneous defaults?
As of the time of publication, Maclear has not experienced multiple simultaneous borrower defaults. The platform has had one default case — Vibroedil, in July 2025 — which was resolved through a private settlement agreement with 100% of investor principal returned. See Article for details.
