When you invest in a project on Maclear, your funds are placed in Reserved status — they are committed to the project but the loan has not yet been disbursed. Funds remain Reserved until the project reaches its funding target and the loan is transferred to the borrower. The project then moves to Funded status, and your funds automatically become Invested.

Reserved status: what it means

Reserved is a confirmed investment commitment, not a temporary hold. Once you click Invest and confirm your amount, your funds are reserved for that project and are no longer available for other investments or withdrawal.

Funds remain in Reserved status through two project stages:

  • Open — the project is accepting investments and has not yet reached its funding target.

  • Prefunded — the target amount has been reached. A Loan Agreement is signed and the loan is transferred to the borrower's account within 2–3 business days.

  • When Reserved funds become Invested

Once the loan is disbursed and all agreements are finalised, the project moves from Prefunded to Funded status. At this point:

  • All Reserved investments automatically become Invested.

  • A repayment schedule is generated and published on the project page.

  • Interest accrual begins from the moment the loan is transferred to the borrower.

  • You can track the status of each investment in your Maclear account under My Investments.

Do Reserved funds earn interest on Maclear?

No. Funds in Reserved status do not accrue interest. Interest begins only once the project reaches Funded status and the loan is transferred to the borrower. Funds committed to Open or Prefunded projects are not yet generating returns.

Can I withdraw funds that are in Reserved status?

No. Funds in Reserved status cannot be withdrawn. Once you confirm an investment, those funds are committed to the project and are no longer part of your Available balance. Cancelling an investment is not possible at any stage — whether the project is Open, Prefunded, or Funded. The only way to exit an investment before the loan is fully repaid is to list it on the Secondary Market. This option becomes available once the project reaches Funded status.

How long can my funds stay in Reserved status?

It depends on the fundraising timeline of the specific project. Projects on Maclear are typically open for up to 30 days, though most reach their target earlier. Once the target is met, the Prefunded stage lasts 2–3 business days before the project becomes Funded. If the project does not reach its minimum funding target, it receives Not Funded status and all Reserved funds are automatically released back to your Available balance.

What happens if a project I invested in is not funded?

If a project fails to reach its minimum funding target, it is marked as Not Funded. All funds that were Reserved for that project are automatically returned to your Available balance — no action is required. The funds will appear ready for reinvestment in your dashboard immediately.
